Empress of Ireland at sea by W Kitzis. Oil on canvas. Painted in 1906
for Canadian Pacific Lines. On the 29th May 1914 en route from Quebec,
Canada to Liverpool, England, the Empress of Ireland was in collision in
thick fog with the S S Storstad. She sank in the St. Lawrence Seaway with
great loss of life (1012 passengers and crew). To learn more about this
tragedy read the excellent book Forgotten Empress by David Zeni, available
